This past weekend the IBJJF held the annual NY Open, the biggest regional tournament in the United States, and one of the most prestigious tournaments in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Team Paramount brought several competitors, among them aspiring World Champion Mike Thomas.

After failing to medal at the Pan American Championships (he made it all the way to the quarterfinals), Mike was fired up and excited to compete again. In an amazing display of technique, grit, and determination Mike made his way through the brackets and won 5 matches at Middleweight for the Gold medal.

Then, he entered the Absolute (all medalists from all weight classes) and won 3 matches for another Gold medal! Along the way he defeated the Super Heavyweight champion 12-2 in an amazing match.

Next up is the 2013 World Championships, where Mike will look to once again test himself against the very best and become the Next World Champion.
