New brown belt Anthony Pacinelli has already done what just a few other Paramount BJJ students have done- earn a Gold medal in competition at brown belt. Even more impressive, he submitted both opponents to reach the top of the podium. Having been promoted less than 3 weeks ago to brown belt, Anthony entered his first tournament this past weekend: The IBJJF Washington DC Spring Open.

He submitted his opponent in the semi-final with a brabo choke from closed guard, a technique he’s been using for years and one that was the focus of our Intermediate lessons just a couple weeks ago.

In the final his opponent pulled guard on him, and Anthony used the Sao Paulo style of guard passing (aka “Wilson Pass,” or “Tozi Pass”) to reach half guard where he finished his opponent with an americana armlock.

Great job Anthony!
