I want to talk about something that is a concern for most people, but is almost never talked about. How can you continue with your training when money gets tight. When i first signed up money was a concern for me, but i wanted to train really bad so i just figured i would find a way to make it work. The first couple months of training i didn’t have any problems paying tuition, but then work slowed up and every time i payed any of my bills i could feel the strain on my bank account.

One of the first changes i made was to stop going out so much. I was eating out way too many times a week and going to the bars every weekend and sometimes on the weekdays. If you add up all the money that you spend on going out you would be shocked to see the total. You don’t have to stop going out completely to save money. I still like to go out and have fun on the weekends so i just watch what i spend during the week and make sure I’m not buying rounds of drinks for my friends. If you eat a few more meals at home, or even just bring coffee from home instead of stopping at Wawa in the morning it can add up quick. One of the other things i did was switch my cell phone plan from Verizon to Sprint. I save $40 a month I have the same amount of minutes, text, and Internet, and i have a nicer phone than before.

The point that i am trying to make is that you are not the only one in class that has these concerns. You don’t have to completely change your life to train Jiu Jitsu, but you probably have things that you can do to save money and pay for your training. If you really want to train Jiu Jitsu you can find a way to pay for it.
